Thursday, much to my dismay, we did nothing. ALL DAY LONG. Judd played his computer game, the boys played with Lego's and the Wii. I read but inwardly fumed at wasting a day. I realize and appreciate that Judd works hard and playing video games is his way of relaxing but COME ON. We could have saved $600 and stayed home.
Friday we cruised the lake on the MS Dixie II. It was quite comfy. Very smooth and large enough you didn't feel crammed in there.
So pretty.
Paddle wheels a rollin
Heading out across the Lake to Emerald Bay
It was a bit blustery at the start and a little chilly.
This is a "castle" built as a summer home by Lora Knight in the '30's. Its part of the state park now. They have tours and whatnot. Its supposed to be one of the finest examples of Scandinavian architecture in the US They are restoring some of it now.
This is the Tea House, which is on a little tiny rock island called Fannette Island. The guests of Mrs. Knight would row over and have tea parties. It is also the home of the ghost of Captain Dick Barter. Supposedly he capsized during a winter storm and his body was never recovered. His ghost is supposedly seen on dark and stormy nights climbing out of the water and up the hill.
Logan was most upset by this ghost story and was done with the tour at that point. He pretty much cried most of the way back and was certain the ghost was going to come out of the water and get him. It also didn't help that they told the legend of Tahoe Tessy on the way back. Supposedly people have seen a "creature" similiar to the Loch Ness Monster. Tales of fishermen having their catch "eaten". When they pull their fish out it looks as if half of it had been eaten by a shark. Theories abound that its some sort of dinosaur to an extra large sturgeon. Whatever it is it also added to Logan's angst. He had nightmares that night of Tessy coming out of the water and eating the ship with us on it. Not a good night.
Ronan however didn't give it a second thought.
Afterwards we booked it over to Heavenly Village and rode the Gondola to the top.
You can see forever from the observation deck
Cheese!
There was still 10 feet of snow up there. We got there too late to go on the sled runs, they closed at 3 and we didn't get there til almost 4. BUMMER!
Ronan was having a ball throwing snowballs and eating the snow.
Going back
View from inside going down.
It was pretty cool
Afterwards we had to get some ice cream of course.
Saturday we met up with the Coolbaugh family and headed to the beach at Zephyr Cove.
The water, being snow runoff and early in the year was quite chilly but Logan forgot about getting eaten by the Lake monster and had fun splashing about.
We rented a paddle boat.
Ronan practicing his back stroke standing up.
Ronan standing in the hole Scott dug. You can see Scott and Sydney out in the water. Those are Sam's feet.
All in all the fun outweighed the not fun and when we go back we will take the trailer and stay at the campground right across from the beach.
