sick sick sick

This past week has been a whole lot of sick.

Last Wed when I picked Ronan up from Leslie's she said he was inside sleeping.  She said he had just laid down in the sun and was more than half asleep when she made him go inside.  He was SO hot.  Took his temp at home and it was 103.6.  Yowsa!
So we kept him home on Thursday and kept dosing him with fever reducers.  He didn't really get any other "cold" symptoms.  He had a little bit of a runny nose but nothing bad and a little raspy cough which seemed to be from post nasal drip.  But the fever just would.not. go away.  He'd perk up a bit when the medicine was working but you could totally see his energy meter go down as it wore off.  He stayed home on Friday as well.  We thought it might be over on Saturday but that afternoon back up it went.  He missed his friends birthday party and he was not too happy.
On a side note Logan also went to Saturday school to make up a day he missed and he did great.  Luckily the teacher was one from his school and he had fun.  I was afraid he was going to pitch a massive fit and refuse to go in.  So now that he has that one under his belt he only has 2 more to go.  Ronan will have 5 but they only have them once a month so we'll see.
Anyway back to the fever.  Still there on Sunday and Monday was a holiday so we didn't have to worry about school but we were able to get Ronan into the pediatrician.
He wasn't able to say definitively what was wrong with him but after 5 days of a recurring fever he had some sort of secondary infection going on.  He didn't have any fluid in his ears and his lungs sounded clear.  He did see some redness and slight bulging in one of his ears so he gave us a 10 day course of antibiotics to kill off whatever was causing it.
He had to go back to school Tuesday and its been a struggle all week.  He is not cooperating, not engaging and just going completely off the rails.  Temper tantrums, breakdowns.  He is not eating, falling asleep early.  I think he is just still exhausted and recovering.  I met with his teacher yesterday as she "had concerns".  He was not paying attention, hiding in the cubbies, refusing to work one on one or in a group, not participating. He broke down and cried when she was trying to get him to do his writing and he actually fell asleep on the carpet on day. She didn't realize he had been so sick and we are hoping once the antibiotics are done he will go back to normal. He is no saint by any stretch of the imagination but he is usually pretty cooperative and doesn't act out like he has been(at least in school).
I called the pediatrician to see if he was having a weird reaction to the antibiotics but they said what is likely going on is he is still not feeling good .  We are not regularly dosing him with Tylenol anymore so even though he is saying nothing hurts it likely does. So that is what we are hoping for, that once the course of antibiotics is done he will feel better and go back to normal.
He feel asleep last night at 6:30 and slept until 6:30 this morning.  He seems pretty perky this morning so we shall see.
