Adventure #2 for 2011

So we loaded up and headed up for a long weekend in Three Rivers.  We rented a cabin and it was about as close to the entrance of the park as you can get.  It was a funky little thing.  Not too well equipped cooking wise but clean and warm so what the heck.  This is the front.  Its actually two adjoining cabins.  You can rent the small side or the larger side or both if you have a whole lotta people.

A view of the Kawea river from across the street.
We headed up the mountain Friday mid morning.  Chain control was mandatory at mile 9 so we pulled over and chained up.It was just starting to snow.
More snow.
Higher elevation = even more snow
The convoy in.  There is a secton you have to wait about 20 minutes to get through.  Its a one lane area.  They are reconstructing some of the road.  Very interesting going through there in a snow storm!
Hey they lost us!
It really started to come down.  We stopped at Wolverton but the road had not been plowed and you could barely see the parking area so we debated and decided it might be in our best interests to instead go up to the Lodge where there were actual people so we wouldn't be the subject of a Readers Digest survival story.
Took this out the window of the dining area.  It was really coming down for a while
Ninja Ronan (why the fork is this so big?)
Logan's forlorn look.
Noodles rule!
Ok got my ice cream, I'm all better now
Is my tongue chocolate?
And we couldn't leave without some pictures with the bears
My turn
I love the look on Ronan's face.
Lets not forget this one
This was the accumulation of snow while we ate (about an hour)  The car was totally clear when we parked.  We decided we'd have a quick snow battle and then hightail it outta there.
Snow flakes keep falling on my head.....
The perfect snowball
I dropped my camera in the snow so these next few are a tad on the fuzzy side.  I was afraid I'd killed it but its a tough lil sucker.  The boys really enjoyed the snowball makers.  The only drawback is with powdery snow they fall apart really easily and of course the boys don't know the meaning of "hold it softly".  We had quite a battle.  Everyone got pelted and there was no crying about 'I can't make one" or "my hands are too cold"  (although it was fargen cold!)
HA, got one
Trying to catch snowflakes
snow through the sun roof
This is the downhill stop spot.

My camera battery croaked after this so I have no other photos.  I have some on my phone but I don't know how to get them off of there.

Saturday we didn't head up the mountain as they said it was going to be a heck of a storm so we just stayed in.  It actually snowed down in town.  There was a nice covering of snow on the car and the lower slopes of the mountain.
Today it was perfect. No clouds, nice and sunny and neither one wanted to go up and play. I admit I was rather miffed.    Good thing it doesn't really take that long to get there.  We hit paso about 12:30.  It was fun but we probably could have stayed home and just went up on 46 and played in the snow that fell here while we were gone.  Yeesh.
