Help me out here

My internet home page is set to msnbc.com so I can see the news when I log on. Today I see a blurb about whether the flap over Obama's school speech was worth it. Eh? What the heck are they talking about I think so I click a few links and come to find out that his school speech, which I read in its entirety urges kids to stay in school, listen to their parents and teachers and be meaningful, productive members of society.

Now I believe (I may be wrong) that I'm fairly intelligent and do not in any fashion understand why people were calling the speech propaganda and it would indoctrinate our kids. So someone PLEASE tell me what I'm missing 'cause I just dont get it. Isn't that what we all strive for? Educated children? Kids who will have a happy, fullfilled life doing a job they love?

I DON'T GET IT. Someone enlighten me.

I have come to believe people complain before they even read, see or hear that which they are denouncing. On top of that, they are basing their complaints on something Mary said to Jane who told Phil who repeated it to Joe....And when you ask Mary if she read, or saw or heard, she'll say, well....no, not really.

Well, I am only an Obama supporter in the sense that I take my responibility to pray for him very seriously. I do not verbally bash our president, but I can be vocal about policies and speech that I don't agree with, which is quite a bit. This however is an exception. I completely agree with your assessment. People need to read/listen more, and talk less, or at least wait until they are informed to talk. I think much of the issues raised were done so by the extreme Christian right who try so hard to protect morality and family values, that I think many times the miss the mark and go way overboard. That being said, I though his speech was pretty good, he had some pretty encouraging things to say, and I really didn't take issue with it whatsoever. -Will

Jeanna I saw on Facebook one of my contacts had said she asked her daughter about the speech and her 8 yr old replied it was boring. One of the comments underneath was "well you know what they say, only dictators address children". Seriously?? It's not like he was telling the kids to run home and tell their parents they HAVE to support health care reform or something! It was completely an innocent speech with no politics.
