first barf of the year

Last Saturday was Ronan's BFF's 5th birthday party.  So we headed out and had loads of fun.  The kids were rampaging about eating cookies and cake and digging stuff up and sliding down the fire pole and generally being maniacs.

We left the party and Ronan said he was STARVING!  So we stopped at the store to pick up a bagel.  We get home and I'm making dinner and he comes in and says "my tummy hurts".  I figure its the overload of sugar so I give him a pepto bismal tablet.  1/2 an hour later he's puking.  Parker had thrown up right before we left so I thought  hmmmm.  After about an hour I talked to one of the other parents and asked if her kid was ok.  All was well so far there but she mentioned that at school on Friday two kids were barfing.  Great!  Ronan was sick every 30-40minutes up to about 3 am.  He barfed once more on Sunday and ran a little bit of a temp.  He didn't keep anything down until about 8pm Sunday.  I talked with Tiffany again and her daughter also started puking later Saturday and Cooper, Parker's little brother was also sick.  It only seemed to last about 36 hours for everyone so that was the good thing.  Kaley was freaking out thinking it was something from the party but it appears it was a virus that is making its way through the whole school.  This week even more kids have had it.  So needless to say we did not go to the Aquarium on Monday.  Bummer on many levels.

So instead I took these
mixed in some raspberrys and made some jam.  With no added pectin.  Very interested in trying several non pectin recipes this year.  I find while it does make it gel it adds an odd taste the longer the jam is sitting.  If you use it right away you cant' tell but after a few months I find it gives it a wonky tart aftertaste.

and in whiling away the afternoon looking on ebay I found these.  I see some homemade gummies in our future.  Also Ronan's cake will be very Lego-y.
Its been pouring down rain and it still looks bleak so I'll be training on the spin bike today.
