gramma's poem

Gramma's summer party poem - thanks gramma!

The Picnic
Near lake's edge
Chubby baby legs
Battle gravity.
Arms thrown back,
He balances body weight
Against wet sand,
Comes up short.
A soggy diaper
Compounds the problem.
Children laugh,
Adults chatter,
Sounds echo off the water,
Ring of horse shoes hitting stakes,
Thumping volleyball,
A lone braying donkey.
He smells barbecuing meat,
Wafting under his nose.
He takes in
Bright colored towels,
Festive umbrellas,
Daddy's extended hand,
Undaunted he rises,
Tries again.
Picnics feel like love.
