I would use more intensive curse words but I try to keep this a family friendly blog!
Went to do my training at the gym this morning. Should have known it was going to be a bad day as it was a full moon and I couldn't get the fargen door open! Luckily there was a guy in there on the elliptical machine and he came and let me in.
So I start my workout (and no this isn't a rant about the gym wench either) warm up and start slowly jogging. At about mile 1 my left calf starts to hurt. Hmmmm I think, thats weird is my calf going to cramp, then I feel and hear a little POP. Then it really HURT. So I slow down to walking speed thinking maybe I just strained it a little. I walk for .25 miles (well limp) and realize it isn't getting any better. So I hobble over to the bike and finish my time there. It didn't hurt as much on the bike but I could feel it during the hill sections.
So after hobbling about I decide I should have it looked at. I've torn my soleous muscle. Thats the part of your calf muscle thats along side and under the big ones. Out for 4-6 weeks! I'm so PO'd all that work for nothing. There is no way I can participate in the TNT 1/2 marathon. I cried the whole way home from the doctors.
After composing myself I called my campaign manager and left her a message. I saw in the recommitment paperwork that if you are injured you can transfer 75% of the funds you raised to another TNT event within a year. So I'm hoping I can transfer to the TNT Ride around Lake Tahoe event in June. No more long distance running for me. So much for going outside my comfort zone! I just can't believe it. I feel like I let everyone down that gave me donations. I'm just so BUMMED!
Off to hobble home......

Oh, that freaking stinks! What the heck? I am so sorry and DO NOT feel like you let anyone down. We will find another event we can do cuz I can't do it either...I GOT THE JOB!!!!!!
oh Jeanna. I'm so sorry.
you didn't let anyone down! important thing is for your leg to get some healing!!
after your reading your post, I was a little nervous bec. I'm experiencing the EXACT same thing that you had (before the POP). except mine is on right leg, right next to my shin (midway - right between my ankle and knee). I told Will about what happened to you so now I'm banned from running too.
can you still get on your bike though?
You are still going to compete in a TNT event and for that - and your dedication - you should be extremely proud! You GO girl! I doubt anyone will feel "let down."
Take care of yourself. Those Akey boys (all three of them!) need you! :-)
